Uttar Pradesh has announced a major push into artificial intelligence (AI), cyber security and data centres as part of a wider effort to attract technology investment and build digital infrastructure in Lucknow and beyond. The initiative was highlighted during national events this week, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi describing the AI Impact Summit 2026 in Delhi as proof of India's progress. The state government said it will prioritise policy measures and partnerships to accelerate adoption.

Officials outlined plans to develop dedicated technology zones, upgrade power and connectivity and offer incentives to domestic and international investors. Emphasis will be placed on skill development programmes and collaboration with universities and firms to create a pipeline of trained professionals. The measures aim to make the state competitive for data centre projects and related services.

The state also signalled a stronger focus on cyber security, proposing capacity building for incident response and closer coordination with central agencies. Industry figures warned that rapid automation could reshape the workforce, with venture capitalist Vinod Khosla suggesting that IT and BPO services could disappear in five years due to artificial intelligence. Policymakers said they are factoring such shifts into planning for retraining and economic diversification.

Investment in data centres was framed as essential to support cloud services, enterprise computing and new AI applications while reducing latency for regional users. Authorities acknowledged challenges around land, power and environmental clearances and indicated efforts to streamline approvals. Regulators and industry were invited to consult on standards for energy efficiency and data protection.

Observers said the strategy could attract significant capital if implementation is consistent and governance challenges are addressed. The state aims to balance rapid technological uptake with safeguards to protect critical infrastructure and support inclusive job creation.
