Vedanta Group announced that its girl-focused programmes benefited over 1 million girls in FY26, spanning more than 13 Indian states and international operations in South Africa and Zambia. The announcement, made to mark International Day of the Girl Child, highlights the company's initiatives across education, healthcare, sports, skill development and livelihood opportunities.
The programmes align with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including Zero Hunger, Good Health and Well-being, Quality Education, Gender Equality and Decent Work and Economic Growth.
Through its Nand Ghar initiative, Vedanta supports over 500,000 children, providing early childhood care and development opportunities. The company has also introduced STEM laboratories, digital classrooms and vocational training programmes to improve educational access and employment prospects for girls.
Its healthcare initiatives address adolescent anaemia, menstrual hygiene and cervical cancer awareness. Community outreach programmes have reached over 200,000 people, promoting awareness of child marriage prevention, adolescent health and women's legal rights.
Vedanta is also encouraging girls' participation in sports through football, karate and martial arts programmes. Residential girls' football academies operate in Rajasthan and Goa, while martial arts initiatives extend to Odisha and Visakhapatnam. Participants have progressed to state-level competitions and India Under-16 and Under-17 football trials.
Alongside its community initiatives, Vedanta aims to achieve 35 per cent women's representation across all organisational levels. According to the Annual Survey of Industries, women accounted for approximately 18 per cent of direct industrial employment in 2023–24, compared with around 6 per cent in core sectors such as mining and metals.
