Vedanta Aluminium has cumulatively secured 18 Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) certifications across its smelter operations at Jharsuguda in Odisha and Korba in Chhattisgarh, reinforcing its leadership in quality, reliability and regulatory compliance.

The company was the first in India’s aluminium sector to obtain BIS certification across a wide range of aluminium products. The latest certification, awarded to its unit Bharat Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO), covers Aluminium Alloy Wire Rods under IS 9997:2023. This enhances Vedanta Aluminium’s capability to supply high-performance materials for power transmission, automotive and advanced engineering applications.

Certified under IS 9997:2023, the alloy redraw rods are designed for demanding uses such as overhead transmission lines, automotive wiring systems and welding wires, where strength, conductivity and durability are critical.

Rajiv Kumar, CEO, Vedanta Aluminium, said the certifications reflect the company’s focus on quality and innovation, aligned with its target of achieving a 90 per cent share of value-added products through capacity expansion and technology upgrades.

The certification followed rigorous assessments by the Bureau of Indian Standards, covering manufacturing processes, testing protocols and operational consistency. It adds to BALCO’s portfolio of BIS-certified products including alloy ingots, EC ingots, T ingots, wire rods, plates, sheets and strips, serving automotive, construction, electrical, packaging and engineering sectors.
