Zen Technologies Granted Arms Manufacturing Licence

Zen Technologies has received an arms manufacturing licence from the Government of India under the Arms Act, 1959, authorising the company to produce 12.7mm, 23mm, 30mm and 40mm cannons. The licence allows the company to manufacture rapid-fire cannon systems with primary applicability in air defence, naval operations and counter-unmanned aircraft system roles. These systems are intended as last-layer defences against drones, loitering munitions and other low-flying aerial threats.

When integrated with advanced fire-control systems, radar and electro-optical and infrared sensors, and when used with programmable ammunition, the cannons are expected to deliver responsive and accurate engagement. The combination is said to offer cost-effective protection for strategic assets and armoured formations while enhancing security of border areas and critical infrastructure. The release framed the capability as offering high responsiveness across a range of operational scenarios.

The approval represents a step forward for India’s indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem under the India Defence Development and Manufacturing framework and aligns with efforts to reduce import dependence. Against the backdrop of contemporary conflicts in several regions, the company characterised the capability as suited to address emerging battlefield challenges with India-centric solutions. The move also signals commercial opportunities for supply to national agencies responsible for homeland security.

Zen Technologies operates a research and production facility in Hyderabad and maintains a recognised research and development centre with numerous patent applications. The company has applied for more than 200 patents, has shipped more than 10,000 systems globally and draws on over 30 years of experience in defence training and anti-drone solutions. The licence is expected to reinforce its position in air defence and counter-drone capabilities and to support further product integration and deployment.
