The Election Commission of India (ECI) has achieved a significant milestone by training over 2,300 field-level election officials at the India International Institute of Democracy and Election Management (IIIDEM) in Delhi. This initiative includes a specialized program conducted in Tamil for officials from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry.
The latest training session involved 293 participants, comprising 264 Booth Level Officer (BLO) Supervisors, 14 Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), 2 District Election Officers (DEOs), and other officials. Chief Election Commissioner Shri Gyanesh Kumar emphasized the crucial role of BLOs as the primary interface between the ECI and voters, highlighting their responsibility in maintaining accurate and updated electoral rolls.
The two-day program featured interactive sessions and role-plays to ensure precise completion of electoral forms, including Forms 6, 7, and 8. Participants also received practical training in utilizing IT solutions and were prepared to serve as Assembly Level Master Trainers to further educate other BLOs.
Additionally, the training covered the procedures for filing first and second appeals against the final published electoral rolls, as outlined under Section 24 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950. Notably, no appeals were filed from Tamil Nadu and Puducherry following the Special Summary Revision exercise conducted from January 6 to 10, 2025.
This comprehensive training initiative aligns with the ECI's broader plan to train over 100,000 BLOs across the country in the coming years.
