On May 7, 2025, Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a high-level security review meeting in New Delhi with Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors of India's border states adjoining Pakistan and Nepal. The meeting, attended via video conferencing by leaders from Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, West Bengal, and a representative from Sikkim, focused on national security following the recent Operation Sindoor.

 

Operation Sindoor was launched in response to the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on April 22, 2025. During the operation on the night of May 6–7, Indian armed forces targeted and destroyed nine terrorist-linked locations, including training camps and weapon bases associated with groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammed, and Hizbul Mujahideen. 

Minister Shah emphasized the government's zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and highlighted the nation's unity in the face of such threats. He directed states to ensure the smooth operation of essential services and maintain uninterrupted supply chains. Additionally, he urged vigilance against anti-national propaganda on social and other media platforms, recommending prompt action in coordination with state governments and central agencies. 

The Home Minister also instructed states to keep disaster response forces, civil defence, home guards, and the National Cadet Corps on alert. He stressed the importance of maintaining seamless communication and enhancing the security of vulnerable points across the country.
