Jindal Steel Arm Commissions Phase-I Cargo Terminal in Odisha

Jindal Steel has commissioned the Phase-I capacity of a cargo handling terminal at Paradip in Odisha, beginning commercial operations on October 15, 2026. The facility is part of a port development project with a total investment of Rs. 33.93 bn.

The terminal will provide Jindal Steel with dedicated, long-term access to Paradip Port as it expands its domestic steelmaking capacity. The company completed the first phase ahead of the scheduled completion date under the concession agreement for the project.

The facility has been developed through Jindal Paradip Port, a subsidiary in which Jindal Steel holds a controlling stake. The company is developing a dry bulk cargo terminal with a total capacity of 25 mn tonnes per annum (MTPA) at the Western Dock of Paradip Port, to be completed in two phases.

The first phase provides capacity of 12.5 MTPA. Jindal Paradip Port obtained the completion certificate for this phase on October 12, four days before the scheduled completion date of October 16, 2026, according to a company filing.

Jindal Paradip Port entered into a concession agreement with the Paradip Port Authority to develop the Western Dock on a build-operate-transfer basis. Under the agreement, the commercial operation date for Phase-I was required within 1,095 days of the concession award. Both phases are progressing simultaneously, with the overall project cost estimated at Rs. 33.93 bn.
