Shyam Metalics and Energy has announced the upcoming commissioning of its aluminium flat rolled products and foil manufacturing facility in Sambalpur, Odisha, through its subsidiary Smel Steel Structural.
The facility, in an advanced stage of readiness, will produce aluminium flat rolled products (FRP) with a capacity of 60,000 tonnes per annum and aluminium foils with a capacity of 18,000 tonnes per annum, catering to a range of precision-driven applications.
The expansion marks the company’s entry into value-added aluminium products, aimed at strengthening downstream capabilities and reducing import dependence. It also supports demand across sectors requiring high-quality, engineered materials.
The company expects the project to improve operating margins by 40–50 per cent, driven by a better product mix and enhanced efficiencies. Revenue is projected to grow two to 2.5 times over the medium term, supported by expanded market reach and higher realisation products.
Strategically located, the Sambalpur facility offers logistical advantages for serving domestic and international markets while strengthening the company’s integrated manufacturing ecosystem.
Commenting on the development, Brij Bhushan Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director, said, “This project represents a key milestone in our journey toward building a robust downstream aluminium ecosystem. With rising demand for high-quality aluminium products, we are confident that this facility will contribute meaningfully to industrial growth while supporting local economic development.”
The project is also expected to generate employment and contribute to regional development, aligned with India’s focus on strengthening domestic manufacturing.
