Sunsure Energy to Supply 30 MWp Solar Power to Evonith Steel
The arrangement will allow Evonith Steel to access renewable electricity without waiting for a new power generation facility to be developed and built. Using capacity from an operational solar park is intended to provide a faster route for integrating clean electricity into the company’s manufacturing processes.
Steel production is an energy-intensive industrial activity, and the adoption of renewable power is expected to help Evonith Steel reduce its reliance on conventional grid electricity. The agreement also supports the company’s longer-term sustainability objectives and reflects rising interest among industrial consumers in securing renewable energy through commercial power purchase agreements.
Industry estimates indicate that the solar power supplied under the agreement could help avoid approximately 34,700 tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent emissions annually. The reduction is expected to support efforts to lower the carbon intensity of Evonith Steel’s operations and contribute to the wider decarbonisation of India’s manufacturing sector.
Established in 2014, Sunsure Energy provides renewable energy solutions for utility-scale projects and commercial and industrial consumers. Its portfolio includes solar, wind and battery energy storage technologies, while its operating and contracted renewable energy capacity portfolio stands at 2.5 GW. Evonith Steel manufactures hot metal and flat steel products at its Wardha facility, and the agreement adds to Sunsure Energy’s partnerships with industrial and manufacturing customers across India.
