The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, approved a set of initiatives intended to boost tourism, aviation infrastructure and higher education in the State. The decisions covered the proposed Amaravati Eye observation wheel, a new Aviation Policy for 2026 to 2031, the establishment of a Greenfield international university and arrangements for International Yoga Day 2026.

The Amaravati Eye will be constructed on the banks of the Krishna River on six acres and is modelled on the London Eye to provide panoramic views of Amaravati and the riverfront. The Cabinet directed the designated agency to invite competitive tenders under a design, build, finance, operate and transfer model and indicated that the attraction is expected to become a signature landmark contributing to tourism and visitor footfall.

The Andhra Pradesh Aviation Policy 2026 to 2031 aims to transform the State’s aviation ecosystem through integrated airport infrastructure, expanded cargo and logistics networks, promotion of maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities, aerospace manufacturing and advanced air mobility and sustainable aviation fuel technologies. The government has set a target of increasing annual passenger handling capacity from 6.2 million (mn) to 30.38 million (mn) by 2035 and anticipates air cargo capacity rising from 6,240 t to 0.427 million (mn) t in the same period. The plan envisages nine new airports and 10 waterdromes to ensure airport access within a 150-km radius.

The policy is expected to attract investment exceeding USD 1 billion in MRO and aerospace sectors and to provide aviation training to 5,000 individuals annually, with incentives such as subsidies, stamp duty reimbursements and viability gap funding. The Cabinet approved an amendment to enable Sri City International University in Tirupati district with an investment of Rs 2.5 billion (bn) on a 60-acre campus, reservation of at least 35 per cent seats under the government quota for non-medical courses and a sanction of Rs 100 million (mn) for International Yoga Day 2026 observances.
