The Andhra Pradesh Government has approved Rs 270 million for the immediate restoration of four rainwater outlets at the under-construction Bhogapuram International Airport in Vizianagaram district. The proposal, submitted by the Andhra Pradesh Airports Development Corporation, identified four critical outfall canals—OT1, OT2, OT4 and OT5—requiring urgent desilting and improvement to ensure proper discharge of stormwater.

According to the Government Order issued by Special Chief Secretary M. T. Krishna Babu, the expenditure will be met from the Rs 10 billion HUDCO loan. The Water Resources Department has been tasked with executing the restoration work. The order noted that the airport’s master plan must prioritise site sustainability, including provision for harvesting at least 50 per cent of stormwater runoff. Collected water is expected to be used for groundwater recharge or irrigation, while restored outlets will prevent water stagnation and facilitate safe drainage into existing irrigation canals.

The restoration works are part of broader infrastructure preparations as the State advances construction of the Bhogapuram Airport, which is slated for inauguration in August 2026.
