Union Minister of Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy and Union Minister of Civil Aviation K Rammohan Naidu met in New Delhi on Tuesday and reviewed ongoing and proposed airport projects across Telangana, focusing on Warangal, Adilabad and Pedapalli. They emphasised regular review meetings to ensure timely progress and to resolve administrative and technical challenges. The ministers said the collaborative approach aims to accelerate development and to strengthen regional connectivity to support economic activity.

In Warangal, land acquisition has been completed and 953 acres have been earmarked for the airport, with plans for a 2,500-metre runway and supporting infrastructure. The project design and scope of work are being finalised and studies are under way to define phasing, access roads and utilities to support operations. The foundation stone is expected to be laid in July 2026, which will mark a major milestone and enable subsequent contractual activity.

At Adilabad, land acquisition for terminal and ancillary infrastructure has yet to commence, but the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has agreed to allow use of existing defence land for runway alignment subject to approvals. Discussions are continuing between the Ministries of Civil Aviation and Defence to finalise modalities for joint usage, clearances and security arrangements necessary for civil operations. Officials noted that prompt resolution of these procedural matters is central to maintaining the project timeline.

In Pedapalli, some 980 acres have been identified and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) is conducting a feasibility study to assess viability, catchment potential and the scope of development required. The study will evaluate passenger and cargo prospects, navigation aids, environmental factors and connectivity links to align design with demand forecasts. The ministers agreed that continued oversight, coordinated clearances and timely release of land and permissions will be essential to translate plans into construction and operations.
