Dimapur Airport Panel Reviews Expansion, Services, And Safety
According to the MP’s media secretary, the discussions focused on making the airport more user-friendly by improving overall management, ensuring cleanliness within and around the premises, enhancing transport and cab facilities, and streamlining parking arrangements.
One of the most pressing issues raised during the meeting was the improper dumping of waste near the airport. To address this, the committee decided to work in coordination with the Administration, Police, Ward Authorities, and Village Council to take immediate corrective measures.
The committee also recommended increasing the number of gift shops offering Naga Indigenous products, along with incorporating traditional motifs in the airport’s interior design to better reflect the local culture and heritage.
Further deliberations were held on land requisition for future airport expansion, development of efficient drainage systems, and ensuring uninterrupted water and electricity supply.
Recognising the importance of passenger safety, the committee advised the installation of a dedicated medical team and ambulance service for emergency response, urging the relevant departments of the Government of Nagaland to take swift action.
The panel also expressed unanimous support for reviving the regional connectivity scheme to reintroduce small aircraft services linking Imphal, Dimapur, Guwahati, and nearby destinations. It requested the state government to actively facilitate the initiative.
Additionally, the committee raised concerns about waterlogging and flooding on the runway, which have led to flight delays and cancellations. It praised the Water Resources Department for its ongoing work to mitigate these issues.
Concluding the meeting, the committee commended the Director of the Airport Authority Dimapur and his team for their commitment to the airport’s development. Members pledged full cooperation to ensure the smooth implementation of ongoing and future improvement projects.
