Fly Bharathi Aviation and Aeronautics Private Limited, a pioneering force in India's aviation sector, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Government of Madhya Pradesh to invest Rs 7.5 billion in the development of an airport in Ujjain, or at another strategic location in the state. This landmark agreement, announced at the Global Investment Summit, is set to revolutionise air connectivity, particularly benefiting the millions of pilgrims and travellers who visit Ujjain annually.

Led by Managing Director Girish Pillai, Fly Bharathi Aviation’s investment aims to address a long-standing infrastructural gap in Ujjain, one of India's most revered religious destinations. In the financial year 2023-24 alone, the city welcomed 5.28 crore tourists, a number expected to rise significantly, especially with the development of Mahakal Lok, which has further boosted religious tourism. The lack of an operational airport has been a critical challenge for Ujjain’s expansion as a major pilgrimage and tourism hub. With this proposed airport, the region is poised for economic upliftment, enhanced accessibility, and a significant increase in both domestic and international tourist inflows.
