The Andhra Pradesh government had anticipated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Vizag on Saturday and lay the cornerstone for the green field international airport in Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram, but the ceremony was postponed.

It may be recalled that the AP High Court dismissed all writ petitions pertaining to land acquisition for the airport, clearing the way for the Bhogapuram airport's construction. The court stated in its order that 2,700 acre in total had been notified for the acquisition.

The YSRC leaders assert that they informed the PMO about the airport's laying of the ceremonial cornerstone, but for logistical reasons, Modi's visit to Vizag on November 12 did not include the foundation ceremony.

The Vizianagaram district administration declared that they were prepared for the airport's dedication event. We anticipate that YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, Chief Minister, will make a decision regarding the foundation-laying event soon.

GMR Group has been given the contract for building the Bhogapuram airport. The AP government signed an MoU in June 2020 to have the PPP partner build the airport. An investment of Rs 23 billion is anticipated for the airport project's initial phase.
