IndiGo Starts Work on Bengaluru MRO, to Create 1,000+ Jobs

IndiGo has initiated construction of its major Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru. The airline expects the facility to be operational by early 2028.

The new MRO will span 31 acres, significantly larger than IndiGo’s existing MROs in Delhi and Bengaluru. With 12 aircraft bays and capabilities to service both narrow- and wide-body aircraft, this MRO aims to support IndiGo’s goal of becoming a global aviation leader by 2030.

IndiGo signed the land allotment MoU with Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) in May 2025. The project is anticipated to generate over 1,000 jobs across technical and engineering roles, enhancing Karnataka’s aerospace and defence ecosystem.

CEO Pieter Elbers highlighted the project as a key milestone in IndiGo’s operational growth in Bengaluru, where the airline already operates over 200 daily flights.
