The biggest airline in India is accelerating its overseas growth by adding ten additional destinations in FY25. There is a mix of foreign and domestic destinations. Currently, the airline serves 122 destinations, 33 of which are outside of the country. The record profit in FY24 has led to capacity expansion. Despite having to ground almost 70 aircraft because of problems with Pratt & Whitney engines, the airline was nevertheless able to meet its capacity target.
Similar to its domestic approach, IndiGo has concentrated on a rapid international route growth plan. The airline recently said that it will be entering the long-haul market and offering business class on its planes, marking a significant shift in strategy. Pieter Elbers, CEO, stated that they now have a whole generation coming up that has never flown business class. Similarly, years ago, there was a whole generation in India, that?d never taken a plane, who then became our first-time fliers.
He stated that the carrier believes there is a lot of potential for foreign travel from India. He went on to say that it is really strange that the cumulative share of Indian carriers is substantially smaller than that of international carriers, considering that the market is located in India. Many of the recent measures are helping them reclaim their share, and they are beginning to build on regaining their share in those areas
