Jewar Airport Nears Completion With Runway, Terminal Ready

Noida International Airport, also known as Jewar Airport, is nearing completion in Gautam Buddha Nagar, with one runway and a terminal ready to welcome its first flight. The airport, spread across 1,334 hectares, is being developed by Zurich International Airport AG, with project execution led by the Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA).
Marking India’s first 100 per cent foreign direct investment (FDI) project in the aviation sector, the airport is designed to accommodate six runways and six terminals upon full completion, with an annual passenger capacity of 225 million. This expansion aims to ease congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport, which is already operating at its peak capacity of 80 million passengers annually.
YEIDA CEO Arunvir Singh highlighted the strategic importance of Jewar Airport, which is set to become a major international aviation hub. Located just 700 metres from the Yamuna Expressway, it is also well-connected to the Delhi–Mumbai Expressway, Lucknow–Agra Expressway, Ganga Expressway, and Meerut–Prayagraj Expressway, enabling road travel from Jaipur to Jewar in just 2 hours and 21 minutes.
The airport will be fully integrated with multimodal transport systems, including a rapid rail corridor, Noida Metro extension, and a planned Personal Rapid Transit (PRT) system. Additionally, Indian Railways is constructing an underground transport link via the Chola line to connect Jewar to the Amritsar–Kolkata corridor.
The state government has also highlighted YEIDA’s achievement in acquiring 6,000 hectares of land for the airport without a single court case or protest, positioning the project as a model for conflict-free land acquisition.
Jewar Airport is expected to serve not only the National Capital Region but also play a transformative role in India's civil aviation landscape, acting as a key gateway for both domestic and international travel.
