Union Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu has announced that the Noida International Airport (NIA) in Jewar will be inaugurated on October 30. Passenger services are expected to commence within 45 days of the launch.
In the first phase, the airport will link around 10 major cities including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata. IndiGo has been chosen as the launch carrier, while Akasa Air plans to expand both metro and regional connectivity using NIA as a hub.
Core infrastructure is largely complete, with final touches under way at the domestic terminal. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) is installing systems in the new air traffic control tower, while operational trials are being carried out under the ORAT programme to ensure readiness.
BCAS has already granted airside clearance, paving the way for DGCA’s aerodrome certification. The airport’s phased development aims to handle 12 million passengers annually in Phase 1, scaling up to 70 million once all four phases are complete.
