Kharghar Coastal Road To Cut Navi Mumbai Airport Commute
The project is under construction and is being executed in two phases, one linking Kharghar to CBD Belapur and the other extending from CBD Belapur to the Nerul Water Transport Jetty. The road is planned to begin at Jalmarg in Sector 16, Kharghar, cross the PAY Housing Scheme near Kharghar railway station, continue to Sector 15 in CBD Belapur and end near DPS Nerul. Construction is being led by J Kumar, which has given a targeted completion deadline of 2028.
Planners say the coastal road has been designed to minimise environmental impact on mangroves and the creek ecosystem and to integrate with key arterial routes such as the Sion?Panvel Highway. Along its corridor the scheme will link several residential areas and planned commercial hubs including the International Corporate Park in Kharghar. The City and Industrial Development Corporation (CIDCO) has started relocating electrical utilities that were obstructing the alignment, with relocation work reported to have begun in March.
Officials expect the new link to reduce travel time between Kharghar, CBD Belapur and Nerul and to improve daily commutes while strengthening connections to the NMIA. The route is expected to shorten journeys from parts of Navi Mumbai to the airport to around 15 minutes, enhancing access for residents and businesses as the region prepares for increased activity. Project managers have stated that progress on ground execution is under way and that completion will depend on timely utility relocations and construction milestones.
