Mumbai, 7 September 2025: After multiple delays, the much-awaited Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) is set to be inaugurated on 30 September, marking a major milestone in India’s aviation infrastructure. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has confirmed that the runway will be operational before the ceremony, with the current NOTAM set to end on 20 September, indicating project readiness.

Preparations are also underway to host the Prime Minister at the inauguration. Domestic flight services are expected to commence from the new hub by late October or early November with limited operations initially.

The project, developed by Adani Airport Holdings Ltd (AAHL), had earlier missed deadlines in May, August and early September. The revised completion date signals accelerated progress at the state-of-the-art facility in Navi Mumbai.

NMIA will play a crucial role in reducing congestion at Mumbai’s overburdened Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA), currently operating near full capacity. For residents of Navi Mumbai, the new airport will bring faster connectivity, while travellers from Pune and other parts of western India will benefit from improved flight options and reduced travel times.

With Mumbai emerging as a twin-airport city, NMIA is poised to support the nation’s fast-growing aviation market, enhancing passenger convenience and paving the way for expanded domestic and international routes.
