PM Modi Invited to Inaugurate Guwahati Airport and Namrup Plant

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and invited him to inaugurate two major development projects in the state — the new terminal of Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport and the Rs 106.01 billion brownfield Ammonia-Urea complex at Namrup.

The meeting, which lasted nearly 20 minutes at the Prime Minister’s official residence, saw the Chief Minister extend a formal invitation to PM Modi to dedicate both projects to the people of Assam. The initiatives are expected to play a transformative role in boosting connectivity and industrial growth across the Northeast.

Following the meeting, Sarma posted on X, “Had the privilege to call upon Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi ji in New Delhi today. We have invited him to dedicate two major transformative projects to the people of Assam – the brand new terminal of Guwahati’s LGBI Airport and the foundation stone of the Rs 106.01 billion brownfield Ammonia-Urea complex at Namrup. Grateful that Adarniya Modi Ji has kindly consented. We eagerly await his visit.”

The upcoming state-of-the-art terminal at Guwahati Airport is designed to handle over 13 million passengers annually, easing congestion at the existing facility. The project aims to position Guwahati as a major aviation hub for the Northeast, featuring modern architecture and sustainable infrastructure. The terminal will significantly enhance air connectivity and passenger experience, while further establishing Guwahati as the gateway to Southeast Asia.

Meanwhile, the Namrup Ammonia-Urea complex, once operational, will serve as a critical fertiliser production hub for the entire Northeast. The Rs 106.01 billion project is expected to ensure a steady supply of fertilisers, improve agricultural productivity, and strengthen the region’s industrial base.

Chief Minister Sarma said the projects reflect the Centre’s unwavering commitment to Assam’s growth and the broader development of the Northeast under PM Modi’s leadership. “These initiatives symbolise Assam’s transformative journey towards enhanced connectivity, industrial advancement, and self-reliance,” he added.
