Ranchi, 7 September 2025: Birsa Munda Airport is set to strengthen eastern India’s aviation network with the launch of a new transit service to Bhubaneswar and four more routes under consideration. Airport Director R R Mourya confirmed that discussions with airlines, including Akasa Air, are underway to expand services in the upcoming winter schedule.

The airport has also recorded significant improvement in passenger satisfaction, moving up from the 34th position last year to fifth in the Airports Authority of India’s survey. This progress is attributed to infrastructure upgrades, including 300 sq m of additional seating, a new lounge, expanded food facilities, and ongoing restroom modernisation. A designated parking zone for commercial vehicles has also been introduced.

Currently, operations have temporarily reduced from 27 to 24 flights due to route realignments, with one service shifted to Deoghar and another redirected via Kolkata. Authorities, however, assured that passenger convenience from Jharkhand remains unaffected.

Further enhancements in passenger amenities are planned over the next 6–12 months, reinforcing Ranchi Airport’s vision of becoming a key aviation hub in the eastern region.
