Sukhu Inaugurates NCC Hangar at Bhuntar Airport

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu inaugurated a hangar for the National Cadet Corps (NCC) at Bhuntar Airport in Kullu district on 26 October 2026. Constructed at a cost of Rs. 7.5 mn, the facility marks a significant expansion of aviation training infrastructure for the Air Wing of the NCC in the state.

The aircraft received a water cannon salute as it proceeded towards the hangar during the inauguration ceremony. NCC cadets displayed static and flyable aircraft models, as well as drones designed and developed by them. The demonstrations highlighted their technical skills, creativity and interest in aviation.

Sukhu said the hangar would strengthen aviation training infrastructure in the region and give Air NCC cadets improved access to practical aviation education. The facility will support simulator-based training and help cadets develop flying skills, while providing a structured environment for continued learning.

The Chief Minister said the facility would help young people in Himachal Pradesh develop into skilled pilots, responsible citizens and individuals with strong leadership qualities. He encouraged Air NCC cadets to pursue opportunities in aviation and said the activation of the NCC flying node and training activities at Bhuntar Airport could encourage youth from the state’s mountainous regions to consider careers in the Indian Air Force and civil aviation.

The facility is the first dedicated installation of its kind in Kullu since Air NCC was established in Himachal Pradesh in 1972. Its development involved overcoming longstanding infrastructure constraints, administrative complexities and operational challenges. The hangar is expected to bring aviation training closer to young people, particularly those from remote and rural areas. MLA Sunder Singh Thakur, State Commission for Women Chairperson Vidya Negi, APMC Chairman Ram Singh Mian, NCC Group Commander Brigadier Harpreet Singh, NCC personnel, cadets and their parents attended the ceremony.
