The Tamil Nadu government has begun preparatory works to firm up road connectivity to the proposed Parandur Greenfield Airport by identifying two priority corridors to link the aviation hub with Chennai and adjacent key industrial belts. The proposals are to be placed before the chief secretary for appraisal.

The first project involves widening Pallur-Sogandi Road over a total length of 23.8-kilometre and developing a 60-metre right of way that includes a nine point two-kilometre rerouted stretch skirting the airport boundary. The corridor is proposed as a four-lane carriageway with service roads on either side and a section of State Highway 58 between the expressway interchange and the Pallur-Sogandi Road is also slated for widening to manage traffic.

The second corridor is a new greenfield link from the Oragadam-Cheyyar Industrial Corridor (OCIC) to the airport, a 30.7-kilometre route from Singaperumal Koil to Parandur via State Highway 58, the Chennai Peripheral Ring Road and the Mannivakkam-OCIC stretch. The plan envisages a four-lane carriageway with grade-separated entry and exit ramps at key intersections. State planners examined three connectivity options and chose two to be taken forward while a third option linking the Pallur-Sogandi junction on the Bengaluru-Chennai Expressway to NH 48 was shelved.

Land acquisition norms are expected to vary along the corridors, with a 45-metre right of way proposed up to Neeralur on NH 48 and 30 metres beyond that point until the airport entry. Officials recommended that Detailed Project Reports for both corridors be taken up immediately and that the industries department fund DPR preparation and land acquisition to ensure road access keeps pace with airport development and supports surrounding industrial belts.
