The Uttar Pradesh government has approved an allocation of Rs 950 million (mn) for the widening of the Hamidpur-Sikandrabad-Kuchesar State Highway-100, a move intended to strengthen the link between Jewar International Airport and the Ganga Expressway. The proposal envisages upgrading a 20-kilometre stretch to a 10-metre carriageway to improve traffic capacity and safety. The provincial construction department submitted the detailed plan to the state government as part of broader regional infrastructure works.

The plan focuses initially on the Gulavathi to Kuchesar section, which connects the airport to National Highway-333 and the Moradabad-Gazipur National Highway. The government has already released Rs 680 mn for the 17-kilometre Gulavathi-Sikandrabad segment and contractors are expected to mobilise on site shortly. Officials said the current approvals cover preparatory surveys and land clearance to expedite construction.

A second phase proposes widening the Sikandrabad-Kakrod section, covering 17 kilometres, at an estimated cost of Rs 800 mn. That phase is designed to create a continuous high-capacity corridor facilitating smoother movements between the expressway and the airport. The works will also include drainage upgrades and pavement strengthening to withstand growing freight and passenger traffic.

Authorities argue that the upgraded highway will act as a secondary connectivity option to the airport and relieve pressure on existing routes during peak periods. Improved road capacity is expected to shorten travel times for logistics operators and commuters and to support residential and commercial development along the corridor. The project is being positioned as complementary to planned high-speed rail and expressway initiatives in the region.

With the state prioritising infrastructure investments, officials anticipate the widening will attract private and public sector interest in land parcels adjacent to the route. The design emphasis remains on delivering a durable 10-metre carriageway that accommodates future traffic growth while improving safety standards. Work timetables and contractor awards are expected to be announced as statutory clearances are secured.
