Hyderabad’s first third-level flyover, located between the Outer Ring Road and Kondapur, is poised for inauguration, offering relief to daily commuters in the IT corridor.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) stated in a media release that the construction work on the flyover is nearly finished, and plans are underway to launch the structure during the first week of June.
The release mentioned that the flyover is anticipated to reduce traffic congestion at the Gachibowli junction, thereby saving significant time and fuel for commuters. It has been constructed at a cost of Rs 1.78 billion as part of the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP).
Spanning 1.2 kilometres in length and 24 metres in width, the six-lane flyover is built above the existing Level 1 flyover at Gachibowli junction and the Shilpa Layout Phase-I flyover, which serves as the second-level flyover.
This new infrastructure is expected to ease traffic flow between the Outer Ring Road, Kondapur, and Hafeezpet, while also improving connectivity to Hitech City and the Financial District. Additionally, it is projected to reduce travel time to the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, the release highlighted. The flyover will be the 23rd flyover and the 37th structure constructed under the SRDP project, which was initially designed to include 42 structures.
GHMC Commissioner RV Karnan appealed to South Central Railway authorities to complete their portion of the railway overbridges at Shastripuram and Falaknuma within three months, the statement added.
