15 of 42 Highway Projects Stalled in Punjab, NHAI to Brief PM

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has reported that 15 out of 42 highway projects in Punjab have encountered significant delays, leading to a substantial roadblock in the state's infrastructure development. These projects, crucial for enhancing connectivity and boosting the regional economy, have been stalled due to various challenges, including land acquisition issues, financial constraints, and administrative hurdles.

The NHAI is set to inform Prime Minister Narendra Modi about these delays, seeking his intervention to expedite the resolution process. The stalled projects include major highways and expressways that are vital for improving the transportation network and reducing travel time across the state. The delays have not only hindered progress but have also increased project costs, adding to the financial burden on the government.

Among the affected projects are the Amritsar-Bathinda expressway, the Ludhiana bypass, and the Delhi-Amritsar-Katra expressway. These projects were expected to significantly reduce congestion, enhance road safety, and provide a boost to trade and commerce in the region.

The NHAI has identified key issues causing the delays, including disputes over compensation for land acquisition, delays in obtaining environmental clearances, and contractor performance issues. To address these challenges, the authority is seeking the Prime Minister's support in facilitating faster approvals, resolving disputes, and ensuring timely completion of the projects.

The Punjab government is also being urged to cooperate fully with the NHAI to resolve these issues. Enhanced coordination between state and central agencies is crucial to overcoming the obstacles and ensuring that the projects are back on track.

The successful completion of these highway projects is essential for the overall development of Punjab, promising better connectivity, economic growth, and improved quality of life for its residents. The NHAI's proactive approach in addressing the delays and seeking the Prime Minister's intervention highlights the importance of these infrastructure projects for the state and the country.
