Ahmedabad’s Shastri Bridge to undergo repair work

The Shastri Bridge over the Sabarmati River is set to undergo essential repairs to ensure its continued safety and functionality. The bridge will be closed for a period of six months to facilitate comprehensive restoration efforts.

The central authorities have approved the repair of the bridge. The tender for the bridge’s repair has been approved with the estimated cost for the repair being Rs 6 crore. For the duration of the repairs, a diversion route from Vishala to Narol will be established to manage traffic flow effectively

In the month of June, a picture of this bridge, which connects the Vishala area of Vasna in Western Ahmedabad to the industrial areas of Narol and Pirana in Eastern Ahmedabad, went viral. The viral photograph highlighted the need for joint repairs on the 40-year-old bridge.

During that time, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) had also erected a barrier to restrict the movement of heavy vehicles like trucks and buses. The bridge has been making headlines for the past two years due to its poor condition. The Amdavad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has repeatedly approached the NHAI for its repair, and now the repair process will finally begin.
