The Andhra Pradesh government has set a clear objective of ensuring pothole-free roads across the state, with the Roads and Buildings Department rolling out fast-track measures to accelerate repair and development works.

Minister for Roads and Buildings, Investments and Infrastructure BC Janardhan Reddy said road restoration is being undertaken on a war footing to improve public infrastructure and travel conditions. Acting on the directions of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, the department has introduced a key procedural reform aimed at reducing delays in project execution.

Previously, road-related tenders were recalled if only a single bid was received. This process of re-inviting tenders, evaluating bids, finalising contracts and commencing work often took more than 45 days, significantly delaying road repairs and prolonging public inconvenience due to poor road conditions.

To address this issue, the department has decided that even a single bid received in the first tender call can now be considered for approval, eliminating the need to recall tenders. The move is expected to cut procedural delays and allow road works to commence immediately.

Janardhan Reddy said the reform would help ensure faster completion of road repair and development projects, leading to safer and smoother travel for citizens. He added that the government remains committed to delivering timely and high-quality road infrastructure and restoring efficient vehicle movement across Andhra Pradesh.
