Bengaluru's first double-decker flyover, which links HSR Layout fifth Main with Jayanagar Ragigudda, has been opened for vehicle movement on a trial basis. The South East Traffic Police announced on the social media platform X that traffic had been allowed to ply on the double-decker flyover from HSR Layout fifth Main to Jayanagar Ragigudda on the Outer Ring Road under the jurisdiction of Madiwala Traffic Station of the South Eastern subdivision. The trial movement is intended to help authorities assess capacity and manage peak hour flows and signal timings.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police had inspected the structure on April second and had confirmed that the entire flyover was ready for use. The opening had been deferred earlier until permission was secured from higher authorities, after a partial inauguration of some sections in July 2024. Authorities had sought requisite clearances and completed finishing works on ramps and loops before allowing wider access.

The rail-cum-road flyover runs from Ragigudda to Central Silk Board and incorporates loops and ramps that together extend to five point one two km, providing signal-free movement from Ragigudda to HSR Layout and to Hosur Road. Officials indicated that the new link reduces travel time by over 30 per cent and is intended to relieve congestion at the Central Silk Board junction. The design will improve integration of surface traffic with existing bus services and reduce congestion pressure on adjacent corridors.

During the trial period, traffic and safety performance will be monitored and adjustments made to ramp operations and traffic management as required, before a decision is taken on full public opening. The structure represents a significant addition to Bengaluru's arterial network and is expected to change commuting patterns along the Outer Ring Road corridor. City traffic controllers will review performance data from the trial, adjust diversions and signage as required, and determine the timeline for full commissioning.
