Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary inaugurated the first phase of the Karbigahiya-Mithapur flyover and the two point one km Mithapur-Sipara elevated road in Patna on Friday, the Chief Minister's Office said. The works are intended to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity to Patna railway station, Mithapur bus stand and adjacent neighbourhoods. The inauguration marked opening of the initial stretch under the broader Mithapur-Mahuli-Punpun project. The chief minister performed the ceremonial ribbon cutting and unveiled a plaque to mark the opening.

According to the CMO, the Karbigahiya-Mithapur flyover, including approach and service roads linking Mithapur bus stand to Mithapur roundabout via the newly constructed Karbigahiya roundabout, was constructed at a cost of Rs 2.49 billion (bn). The elevated road section from Mithapur to Sipara spans two point one km. The CMO said the roundabout is expected to reduce traffic pressure and ease commuting for rail passengers and the general public. The works form part of efforts to enhance urban mobility and optimise traffic management along the corridor.

After the inauguration, the chief minister inspected the flyover and reviewed traffic arrangements on foot and by vehicle, and officials examined facilities and traffic flow systems associated with the projects. The administration said the new corridor will facilitate smoother movement and help reduce vehicular congestion on major routes. Officials also noted improved connectivity for travel towards Punpun via Mahuli. Officials inspected signage, lighting and emergency access provisions during their review.

Deputy Chief Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, Road Construction Minister Kumar Shailendra and other ministers, legislators and senior officials attended the opening, and senior administrative and police officers accompanied the delegation. The state described the two projects as significant steps towards modernising the traffic system in the capital and ensuring safe and seamless commuting for citizens. Also present were the chief minister's principal secretary Deepak Kumar, road construction department secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal and Patna district magistrate Kundan Kumar among other senior officers.
