Bihar to go into overdrive for widening district roads

The Bihar government is making a new plan to widen all major district roads in a phased manner to end traffic jams. Along with this, the plan to build flyovers on narrow roads will also be implemented soon.

There are 15,273 km of major district roads under the Road Construction Department. Under the new scheme, a one-lane road will be converted into an intermediate lane, while intermediate lanes will be converted into two-lane roads. Roads which are of two lanes but still experience jams will be widened. Where roads are narrow but due to land acquisition problems, widening cannot be done, flyovers may be built.

The government has asked the engineers for information about roads where the pressure of vehicles has increased in recent days. Along with this, answers have also been sought regarding the problems related to road widening. It has also been decided that if there is encroachment on the land available for road widening, then it should be vacated in coordination with the district administration.
