BMC Completes Demolition of 604 Structures for Link Road
The demolition drive was conducted by the civic body’s T Ward on October 16, 2026. The BMC said the clearance would support the project’s progress and help address traffic congestion in Mumbai. The affected properties included residential and commercial premises, and action was taken against both eligible and ineligible structures.
The structures were removed in two phases. In the first phase, the civic body cleared 389 structures by May 31, 2026, while the remaining 215 were removed during Friday’s operation, completing the demolition process in the T Ward area.
More than 30 BMC engineers and 50 staff members were deployed for the operation. The civic body used four poclain excavators, four JCB machines and 10 dumpers, while a heavy police presence was maintained at the site. The operation was conducted under the guidance of the Deputy Municipal Commissioner of Circle 6 and the leadership of the T Ward assistant commissioner.
The BMC has begun clearing debris from the site and said it was working to make the land available for the next stages of construction. The Goregaon-Mulund Link Road is 12.20 km long and is being developed in four phases, involving road construction, an underground tunnel and flyovers. The project is intended to improve connectivity between Mumbai’s western and eastern suburbs and reduce traffic congestion. The completion of the Amarnagar clearance is expected to facilitate further development of the corridor.
