BMC launches 143 m second girder link
The launch of the second girder had initially been scheduled for the end of the month. However, the favourable weather prompted its early transportation from Nhava Gaon in Navi Mumbai to the launch site in Worli on a 25,000 metric tonne barge anchored in the Arabian Sea on Sunday evening, as explained by a senior civic official. "It represents the most challenging phase of linking the two routes. The first girder was installed with the assistance of tidal waves on April 26, between 2am and 3.25am.
The southbound carriageway of the coastal road between Worli and Marine Drive had been opened for traffic on March 12. On May 3, the traffic hours on the road were extended from 12 hours to 16 hours, from 7am to 11pm, seven days a week. It is anticipated that the entire road will be open to traffic by June.
