The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) has undertaken a series of bridge and road construction works in the border areas of Qila Dharhal Tehsil in the Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) under Project Sampark. The programme includes erection of the Jambhir steel bridge and the Balavenue-Lam-Dharal crossing along feeder routes that tie into the Akhnoor-Poonch national highway. The works aim to strengthen frontier infrastructure and provide all weather connectivity to remote hamlets and forward posts.

Works carried out comprise modular and steel bridge erection, construction of approach roads and minor realignment of existing tracks to improve load bearing and gradient. BRO contracted specialised machinery and adopted engineering solutions suited to the terrain and climatic challenges of the Pir Panjal foothills. Planning and execution were coordinated with the district administration and security agencies to ensure safe movement and continuity of supply chains.

The upgraded links are expected to facilitate routine travel, enhance access to health and educational services and support local commerce by reducing transit constraints. Connection to the Akhnoor-Poonch national highway will allow heavier and more frequent vehicular movement, easing logistical bottlenecks for farmers and traders. Maintenance regimes and periodic inspections have been factored into the project design to preserve structural integrity and operational readiness.

Officials indicated that the interventions form part of a sustained effort to upgrade frontier connectivity across J&K and to bolster resilience of border communities. The works under Project Sampark are aligned with wider initiatives to support socioeconomic development in Rajouri and adjoining sectors without compromising security considerations. Continued engagement with local stakeholders is planned to complete remaining works and to integrate new links into the regional transport network.
