Centre halts Goa ring road project pending 40-km highway completion

As per news reports, the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has paused the Rs.150 billion Goa ring road project until the remaining 40 km of national highway widening, started in 2016, is completed. The ring road was approved to ease traffic by diverting heavy vehicles, but the ministry insists pending stretches in Cuncolim, Canacona, Bhoma and Ponda must be finished first. Delays due to land issues, environmental concerns and scope changes have hindered progress. With no set timeline, officials fear prolonged setbacks in infrastructure planning, putting Goa’s broader mobility goals temporarily on hold.
