The Chitrakoot Link Expressway is proposed as a short high-speed connector of around 14 to 15 kilometres that will initially be developed as a four-lane road with provision for future expansion to six lanes. The route will link major religious destinations including the Mandakini River ghats, Kamadgiri Parikrama Marg and Ramghat directly with the Bundelkhand Expressway. The project is being overseen by the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority as the nodal agency.

The link is designed to strengthen the state expressway network by providing access through the Bundelkhand Expressway to the Agra-Lucknow Expressway near Kudrail village in Etawah district, improving connectivity with Agra and Lucknow. Via the Agra-Lucknow Expressway and the Yamuna Expressway the route will create a high-speed corridor to Delhi-NCR that includes Noida and Greater Noida. Plans also propose an interface with the Jhansi Link Expressway to benefit commuters from Jhansi and Jalaun.

Apart from facilitating religious tourism, the expressway is expected to bolster the Bundelkhand Defence Industrial Corridor, of which Chitrakoot is a part. Industrial units in and around Chitrakoot should gain from improved road access for the movement of goods to Delhi, Lucknow and Kanpur while new industrial corridors along both sides of the route are being planned to promote logistics, hospitality and the region's handicrafts sector. In the longer term the corridor may also be linked to the Ganga Expressway and the Lucknow-Kanpur Expressway to expand connectivity.

UPEIDA has accelerated land acquisition and construction activity for the scheme, reflecting its strategic role despite the short length of the link. The Chitrakoot Link Expressway is expected to function as a key node in the 296-kilometre Bundelkhand Expressway network and to materially improve travel times and regional access when completed.
