The powerful Bharatmala Pariyojna (BMP) is preparing the way for the state to be reduced and for travel to be revolutionised. With more than 1600 km of motorways weaving through its thriving towns, Punjab is preparing to say goodbye to traffic jams and say hello to travel times that are shorter than before.

These expressways, which have four to six lanes, have the potential to completely alter Punjab's travel history. A Delhi to Katra excursion will now take roughly 7 hours, which is a reduction of 5 hours off your travel time, while the arduous 8-hour journey from Delhi to Amritsar will be cut to a manageable 4 hours.

There are yet more conveniences to come. The BMP would reduce the distance between Mohali and Barnala's travel time from 2.5 hours to just 1.5 hours. If the highway engineers are right, you could also bid farewell to the aggravating traffic jams that have plagued Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Patiala, Malaut, Mandi Dabwali, and Phagwara as these motorways, along with seven bypasses, will free these cities from the chains of congestion.
