DMRC Floats Tender for Central Vista Metro’s Underground Stretch
Designated EC-04, the package begins beyond Kartavya Bhawan station and includes stations at India Gate, War Memorial–High Court, Baroda House and Bharat Mandapam. The scope includes station structures, pedestrian subways, entry and exit facilities, and associated civil and structural works.
The appointed contractor will design and construct the up and down line tunnels using tunnel boring machines (TBMs). The work also covers station boxes, concourse and platform levels, ventilation and utility areas, drainage systems, pump rooms, auxiliary facilities, and structural provisions for signalling and telecommunications systems.
DMRC issued the tender on 25 September, with bids scheduled to close on 9 November. The contract has a completion period of 42 months, equivalent to 1,260 days. Tender documents specify that India Gate and Baroda House stations cannot be used for launching or retrieving the TBMs, requiring the machines to pass through those locations before being handled at designated shafts or adjoining stations.
The construction sequence may require temporary tunnel segments to be installed through the station areas and removed later for the permanent station structures. Pedestrian subways may use cut-and-cover, box-pushing or New Austrian Tunnelling Method techniques, depending on site conditions and road constraints. The section forms part of the 9.913-km RK Ashram Marg–Indraprastha corridor, an entirely underground extension being developed under Delhi Metro Phase V(A).
