Gadkari Warns Punjab: NHAI May Cancel 8 Highway Projects Over Law & Order Issues

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has issued a stern warning to the Punjab government, indicating that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) may cancel eight major highway projects in the state if the law and order situation does not improve. This warning comes amidst growing concerns about the safety and security of workers and contractors involved in these critical infrastructure projects.

Gadkari, addressing the ongoing issues, highlighted that the deteriorating law and order situation in Punjab has led to significant delays and disruptions in the execution of several highway projects. He emphasised that the safety of the workforce is a priority, and the current environment poses a serious risk to the timely completion of these projects.

The Minister's warning was directed towards Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, urging immediate action to restore order and ensure the smooth progress of the projects. Gadkari made it clear that if the situation remains unresolved, the NHAI would have no choice but to pull back from these ventures, which would be a major setback for the state's infrastructure development.

These projects, which are vital for enhancing connectivity and boosting economic growth in Punjab, include key highway expansions and new road constructions. The potential cancellation of these projects could have far-reaching consequences, affecting the state's development agenda and its ability to attract further investment.

Gadkari's warning underscores the importance of maintaining a stable and secure environment for infrastructure development, which is essential for the successful implementation of large-scale projects. The Punjab government is now under pressure to address the law and order challenges to avoid the cancellation of these crucial highway projects.
