GMADA to Acquire Land for Grid-Pattern Road Construction
Officials explained that the existing sectors of Chandigarh and Mohali were developed based on a grid layout. When Chandigarh was initially designed and Mohali was later planned, connecting roads were constructed using the same grid pattern.
The focus of GMADA is now on new sectors, specifically 93 to 114, which fall within the boundaries of the railway line. Roads in these sectors will also follow the grid layout to maintain consistency in urban planning.
GMADA has initiated the land acquisition process to accelerate development, with notices under Section 4 of the Land Acquisition Act expected to be issued soon. This section grants the government or relevant authority the power to acquire land for public use.
Through this initiative, GMADA aims to achieve well-planned development, enhanced transportation infrastructure, and accelerated residential growth in the new sectors.
