GMDA Plans Rs 675 Million Upgrade Of Ardee City Road
According to officials, the proposal will first be placed before the GMDA chief executive officer and subsequently submitted to the Haryana Chief Minister for approval at an authority meeting. The road currently serves as a key parallel corridor to Golf Course Road and carries heavy traffic, with three lanes on either side. However, several stretches lack service roads and footpaths despite significant vehicular and pedestrian movement.
A senior GMDA official said congestion on the stretch is expected to increase further once construction begins on the upcoming metro station near Fortis Hospital. As part of the proposed upgrade, the authority plans to build service roads, stormwater drains and footpaths along the entire 7.5 km stretch, in addition to re-carpeting the main carriageway to enhance overall capacity.
The project also includes plans to connect all major intersecting roads through slip roads to prevent long vehicle queues at traffic signals. In addition, GMDA has proposed the construction of an underpass near Z Chowk at the Millennium City Centre Metro Station. The underpass, designed with three lanes in each direction from IFFCO Chowk towards Golf Course Road, is estimated to cost around Rs 800 million.
Officials noted that execution of the underpass will require careful planning due to the proposed Namo Bharat train corridor, Gurugram Metro works and the presence of extensive underground utilities in the area. While the underpass may take longer to commence, road expansion works are expected to be taken up on priority.
The project is expected to benefit residents of sectors 28, 29, 44, 45, 51, 52, 55, 56 and 57, as well as Sushant Lok phases I, II and III, RD City, and villages including Wazirabad, Samaspur and Kanhai. Officials said the expansion would significantly improve traffic flow and reduce congestion along one of Gurugram’s busiest urban corridors.
