Goa Highway Repairs To Be Monitored Through New MoRTH App

Repairs and maintenance of damaged highways across Goa, undertaken by contractors during the defect liability period, will now be centrally monitored by the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) through a new mobile application. The state Public Works Department (PWD) has already been instructed to come on board the system, which went operational on 21 July.

This application, designed for internal monitoring, is in addition to the citizen-facing ‘NHAI One’ app, which tracks project progress and ensures timely execution.

Investment in Goa’s Road Network

Over the past few years, MoRTH has sanctioned more than Rs 140 billion for highway expansion and upgrades in Goa. In addition, projects worth Rs 30–40 billion have been cleared recently. Given this scale of investment, the ministry is keen to ensure effective maintenance and timely delivery of infrastructure.

Key Features of the App

According to officials, the app introduces geo-fencing and automated reporting, allowing central authorities to monitor works remotely through a comprehensive dashboard. It enables:

  • Timely updates and verification of defect rectification
  • Management of timelines and penalties
  • Standardised inspection processes
  • Enhanced communication through notifications

The app is specifically tailored for projects implemented by state governments and MoRTH project units under maintenance contracts, including those within the defect liability period.

Integrated Approach

MoRTH has also created a dedicated WhatsApp group to facilitate quick information exchange between contractors, state engineers, and central officials. Training sessions will be conducted for both central and state-level staff to ensure smooth adoption.

While ‘NHAI One’ addresses overall project management and citizen complaints, and ‘Rajmargyatra’ provides public information on highways, toll plazas, fuel stations, hospitals, charging stations, and weather updates, the new app is intended to streamline internal highway maintenance management.
