The Gujarat government has approved Rs 6.68 billion for converting 787 panchayat roads from asphalt to concrete. The initiative aims to upgrade 1,020 kilometers of rural roads to enhance durability and improve connectivity.

According to an official statement, the funds will be used to construct 5.50-meter-wide concrete roads to address the recurring issue of road deterioration caused by water accumulation and heavy traffic. In areas where concrete roads cannot be constructed, paver blocks will be installed as an alternative.

The recent monsoon rains have severely damaged the existing road network due to widespread waterlogging. The sanctioned funds will focus on strengthening rural roads across the state to provide a permanent solution and ensure safer transportation for residents. (ET)
