Hindustan Zinc launches EV bus fleet in Rajasthan

Hindustan Zinc has launched Rajasthan’s first large-scale electric bus fleet at its Zinc Smelter Debari plant in Udaipur, marking a step towards decarbonising employee transportation.
The rollout, undertaken in partnership with Enviiiro Wheels Mobility, forms part of a broader deployment of 41 electric buses across the company’s operations in the state.
The transition from diesel to electric buses is expected to offset over 11,000 tonnes of CO₂e emissions over the contract period, contributing to Scope 3 emissions reduction.
Arun Misra, CEO, said the initiative aligns with the company’s Net Zero ambition and its commitment to embedding climate responsibility into operational practices.
Hindustan Zinc has also increased renewable energy usage to nearly 18 per cent of its power mix and has a 530 MW round-the-clock renewable energy agreement expected to meet over 70 per cent of its total power requirement.
A member of the International Council on Mining and Metals and aligned with Science Based Targets initiative commitments, the company continues to invest in energy efficiency and clean mobility.
The initiative reflects a broader shift within the metals and mining sector towards integrating sustainability into core operations, including transport and energy systems.
