ITI Limited, India’s first public sector undertaking post-Independence and a leading telecom manufacturing firm, has partnered with US-based technology company mLogica to launch an AI and Big Data Analytics-based pilot project aimed at reducing road accidents and enhancing traffic enforcement in Uttar Pradesh.
Backed by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), the pilot will deploy a Rs 880 million AI solution to conduct root cause analysis of road accidents. The initiative will utilise ITI’s Complex Event Analytics platform to create a scalable, real-time data infrastructure capable of analysing traffic flow, weather conditions, driver behaviour, vehicle performance, accident history, and road infrastructure.
The six-week prototype phase will integrate diverse datasets—such as accident records, telematics, and driver histories—to build AI models that predict accident black spots, identify high-risk patterns, and deliver policy dashboards for real-time decision-making.
Key expected outcomes include:
- Identifying true causes of accidents and fatalities
- Detecting black spots and high-risk zones
- Real-time risk prediction and preventive modelling
- Simulating cost-benefit outcomes of intervention strategies
- Providing data-backed recommendations for infrastructure and policy upgrades
- Enabling real-time monitoring of safety improvements
The pilot also aligns with Uttar Pradesh’s larger digital governance goals. Once successfully tested, the AI platform will be expanded to core transport functions including faceless licensing, revenue collection, e-challan operations, and management of Vahan-Sarathi registries.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajesh Rai, Chairman and Managing Director of ITI Limited, stated, “This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in India’s traffic management journey. Our AI-driven approach will contribute meaningfully to saving lives and streamlining enforcement. ITI is honoured to be trusted by state governments in delivering robust ICT solutions for their e-governance needs.”
