Juhu flyover to pass beneath Mumbai Metro 2B
BMC had started planning for this flyover in 2016 and had appointed two consultants. Considering the presence of the Metro station, the civic body changed the route of the flyover to align it parallel to the Metro line. This new route passes over land owned by the Airport Authority of India. The proposal to pay Rs 110.16 million to the AAI for land costs was approved in January 2023. During this time, BMC also proposed the construction of a 1.65-kilometre-long flyover, estimated to cost Rs 4.36 billion.
According to the proposal approved by BMC last week, AAI officials informed BMC on June 7, 2023, that there are height restrictions on airport property, preventing any construction above ground level. In response, AAI suggested that BMC explore the option of building the flyover beneath the Metro 2B line. Following this suggestion, BMC decided to appoint a consultant to assess the feasibility of constructing the flyover under the Metro line. The BMC selected the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay as its consultant and agreed to pay them Rs 1.5 million in consultancy fees.
