Karnataka Approves Bengaluru's First Tunnel Road Project
The tunnel road project is expected to span 50 kilometres and will connect major parts of the city, including crucial areas like the Outer Ring Road and key business districts. It is designed to reduce traffic on surface roads and provide faster, more efficient travel for commuters. Bengaluru has long faced challenges with traffic management due to its growing population and increasing number of vehicles, making this project a much-needed solution.
The cabinet's approval signals the beginning of the planning and design phase, with a detailed project report (DPR) to be prepared soon. The estimated cost of the project and timeline for completion are yet to be finalised, but the move has been welcomed by city planners and residents alike.
This tunnel road will be the first of its kind in the city, integrating modern engineering techniques to ensure minimal disruption to the urban landscape. It is expected to complement other ongoing infrastructure projects, such as the expansion of the metro rail network, ultimately contributing to a more seamless and efficient transportation system in Bengaluru.
