Karnataka’s Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT) has approved for 100% assistance to implement RFID-based smart card system in Belagavi city and Gadag-Betageri twin cities under the State Urban Transport Fund.
The North Western Road Transport Corporation (NWKRTC) had launched RFID smart cards in August to facilitate inter-city travel in Belagavi as a part of pilot project. Limited smart cards were issued for Belagavi City Bus Stand on the Angol, Vadagaon and Yallur routes. Now NWKRTC will implement this in all its routes of Belagavi City.
Cards will work as a prepaid device allowing passengers to travel on specified bus routes without worrying about cash payments.
